  8. According to almighty pop culture you are whether smart or pretty and if you are not any of those them you attempt to be nice. You rarely see all this qualities in a female character and the ones that do, are called Mary Sues…so yeah, though for you and for us, YMMV.

  11. My reply was also from the male perspective. Badger, I understand exactly what you mean… It is either all or nothing. Either a) she drops any of the intellectualism, or b) She is not able to turn it off… which frankly is annoying and one dimensional.

  13. It has been my experience that it is rarely anything in between.

  15. I also share your experience, although I didn’t go to an “ivy” …I did go to one of the “other ivy” schools, so I am involved in similar social circles.

  17. Maybe one of my faults was that I didn’t go on for the PhD as many of my peers, or less than stellar peers at the time also, maybe I would have met my counterpart as I have seen many others that *stay* in the academy do.

  19. I had my own qualms about that lifestyle, so chose not to go that route, I suppose it is the price to pay back in the “real world”…

  22. It is heartbreakingly frustrating being a smart guy, and one who takes pride in his intellectualism, trying to find a decently sized dating pool. There just are not that many intelligent, interesting women out there.
  23.
  24. Well when you’re top 1-3% the pool is small if you value intelligence in a partner. It’s no wonder that dating services like Good Genes and social clubs like Ivy Plus(?) have sprung up. As you say, there are plenty of idiots who went to those schools, but there have got to be some women that meet your standards. It’s discouraging to hear that smart women have no interest in the mating dance – it’s probably a way of acting precisely the opposite of sorority girls gone wild.
